Draft comes in around handle and lock

Today's post is going to be a visual one, and it's pretty self explanatory, but I'll give you some background.  When my parents were over for Christmas my dad was by my door leading out to my deck and noticed there was a draft coming through where the door and deadbolt latched.  Even though there was weather stripping on the outside of the door, the air somehow leaked around it at these points. If you live in the U.S., you know the east coast has been battered by some cold weather lately, so I started thinking about this draft.  Below is my solution.  I'm not sure how effective it is, to really gauge it I'd probably have an energy audit and a blower door test, but hey, it was free and it can't hurt!

Nice solution, Chris. I don't think you'd be able to tell the difference with a Blower Door, though, because the amount of air leakage would be pretty small. It's the location that hurts in this case because anyone near the door can feel the cold air coming in, blowing over their skin, and robbing heat from their bodies.
