Wattvision is a home energy monitor that attaches to the meter on the outside of your home. The meter "reads" the data and then sends it over a 50 ft. cable to a gateway. The gateway then connects to your home's wifi network to send the data to the Wattvision servers. Once the data is on the Wattvision servers, you can view it from anywhere you have an internet connection of by using the Wattvision iPhone or Android app.

Wattvision is similar to BlueLine Power Cost Monitor.

On September 13, 2012 Wattvision completed a successful funding campaign on Kickstarter raising .

Gateway: Specs

Set and Forget. The wattvision gateway is powered by a wall socket and wired to the sensor on your meter. There are no batteries to replace, so once you set it up, you'll never need to touch your system again.

Connects to your 802.11B Wi-Fi Network. The gateway supports open or secure (WEP, WPA, and WPA2) wireless networks.

Status Lights. The Status indicators make it easy to determine if wattvision is working properly.
  • Power - receiving power.
  • Wi-Fi - connected to your Wi-Fi network.
  • Link - connected to the wattvision servers.
  • Sensor - toggles on and off as sensor collects data.

Configured via Ad-hoc Wi-Fi. To program the gateway with your network settings, you power it up without the sensor connected. This puts the gateway in "Setup" mode. In "Setup" mode, the gateway creates its own wireless network called "Wattvision Setup." Connect to the "Wattvision Setup" network and enter your network details through your browser. No additional software involved!

Sensors: Specs

There are three types of sensors, and each is designed to work outdoors while attached to the surface of your meter.The sensors are easily installed and removed, and no tools are required!

Digital Sensor, Top Mount. Compatible with the Itron/Schlumberger Centron C1S C1SR and C2S C2SR meters.

Digital Sensor, Front Mount. Compatible with digital meters that have an IR Test Pulse LED on the front face of the meter. These meters include the GE-I210, I210+, Elster Type REX R1S and R2S, Itron Sentinel, and iCon iSA2.

Analog Sensor. The analog sensor works with all analog meters that contain a rotating disk. The analog sensor reads the black patch on the edge of the disk -- the disk must be within 1" of the meter cover for the system to work.

Mapawatt has not personally tested Wattvision. Based on our research, we do recommend it for all users who have a compatible meter, and the meter is within 50' of your home's wifi network.

"Enter Wattvision. Using a simple velcro strap, it wraps around your meter and gives you a clear and positive feedback when it's reading the meter correctly. Many meters have a digital output, some older meters are still the spinning-dial analog ones. Either way, setup at the meter is a snap. But the really cool part of Wattvision is the service part of it. You connect the meter-bit to a tiny little box that plugs in. And when it plugs in, it connects (magically, it seems) to your home's wireless network with minimal setup. No other wires, no mess, no electrician -- just works.
