Hojo Motor is a Scam!

The Hojo Motor is a scam.  If you purchased the Hojo Motor plans before reading this post, I'm sorry, you got scammed.  If you purchase the Hojo Motor plans after reading this post, you are dumb.  Plain and simple.  I'm sorry to use harsh words here, but sometimes it's necessary to be blunt in order to get your point across.

We've been down this path before, with the Magniwork scam.  In fact, Magniwork has been our most popular post, and has led us to post Renewable Energy Scams.  As you can see from that post, there is no shortage of scams out there trying to take advantage of the energy ignorant.

I don't care that on the web page for the Hojo plan they show some patents (see the bottom of this post for information regarding said patents) for a some kind of magnetic perpetual motion machine.  I'm not even going to get into the discussion on the laws of thermodynamics.  What I will tell you is if some kind of free energy generator was real, I would be the first person to have it.  You wouldn't hear about some free energy generator from some Google ad, you would hear about it because the President is talking about it on the world stage.  It would be the biggest breakthrough in the 21st century.  And you think you are going to buy some plans for $49.97?  (side note: ClickBank sells these plans along with many other scams, and they should be fined by the Federal Trade Commission)

Hank Mills wrote a great "Letter to Hojo Motor Plan Scammers" in which he stated:

Howard Johnson was a brilliant inventor. You got that one fact correct. However, his technologies were never fully developed, and were still very experimental when he died. Even if he was able to create motion in an experimental test rig (after hundreds or thousands of hours of work), it was not ready to power a home, an appliance, or even a very light load like a light bulb. The idea that someone could take plans for his device, and build a system capable of powering their home, is totally absurd. Unless of course, they had tens of thousands of dollars to spend, months to experiment just to make a motor self-sustain, and even more time and money to do the research and development needed to do anything practical with it.

Don't think we know what we're talking about?  Fine, buy the plans and make a fool of yourself.  For everyone else out there, focus your time on conserving energyproducing real clean energy, and living more sustainably.

Regarding the Patent Claims, below is what I received from a friend who is a patent attorney:

First, if he got a patent on this "secret" invention that was just released, then it couldn't have been secret, since getting a patent means publicly disclosing the invention.  Patents don't certify that free energy works, the patents simple certify that his magnetic motor works as a magnetic motor

Regarding the patents: I"ve pasted the first independent claim of each of the patents so you can start learning what patents really cover.  The claims are the legal bounds of the patent and define what the inventor is actually protecting.  As you will so, there is no language in any of these claims that says free energy, pertetual motion, etc.

4,151,431 patent expired in 1999.
It Claims: A permanent magnet motor comprising, in combination, a stator track defining a track direction and having first and second sides and composed of a plurality of track permanent magnets each having first and second poles of opposite polarity, said magnets being disposed in side-by-side relationship having a spacing between adjacent magnets and like poles defining said track sides, an elongated armature permanent magnet located on one of said track sides for relative movement thereto and in spaced relationship to said track side wherein an air gap exists between said armature magnet and said track magnets, said armature magnet having first and second poles of opposite polarity located at the opposite ends of said armature magnet defining the length thereof, the length of said armature magnet being disposed in a direction in general alignment with the direction of said track, the spacing of said armature magnet poles from said track associated side and the length of said armature magnet as related to the width and spacing of said track magnets in the direction of said track being such as to impose a continuous force on said armature magnet in said general direction of said track.

(THIS IS NOT CLAIMING A FREE ENERGY DEVICE, just a specific, very narrowly claimed type of motor)

4,877,983 Patent - expired in 2009
It Claims:
In combination with a movable armature, means for guiding movement of the armature along a predetermined path and a permanent armature magnet having magnetic poles of opposite polarity spaced from each other along said path to establish a magnetic field of limited extent movable with the armature and magnetic stator means for establishing a stationary magnetic flux zone along said path, the improvement comprising flux emitting surfaces of one polarity mounted on the stator means on opposite sides of said path for limiting said flux zone through which said path extends and means mounting the permanent armature magnet on the armature with the poles thereof orientated relative to said flux emitting surfaces on the stator means for unidirectionally propelling the armature along said path through the limited zone in response to magnetic interaction between the movable magnetic field and the limited flux zone, said magnetic stator means including a plurality of magnetic gate assemblies fixedly spaced from each other along said path and respectively establishing stationary magnetic fields, each of said gate assemblies including a plurality of interconnected bar magnets substantially bordering said limited flux zone exposing pole faces of opposite polarity in parallel spaced planes intersected by said path, and magnetic means connected to said interconnected bar magnets exposing one of the flux emitting surfaces of said one polarity perpendicular to said parallel planes for magnetic interaction of the stationary magnetic fields.

(AGAIN, NOT CLAIMING PERPETUAL MOTION, just a different motor configuration)

5,402,021 will expire 2015
It Claims:
A magnetic propulsion system comprising:

a vehicle having a rigidly attached magnetic armature, said magnetic armature including a first series of magnets positioned across said vehicle and extending generally from one lateral side of the vehicle to another lateral side of the vehicle, all of the magnets in said first series of magnets being generally parallel to one another;

a first magnetic wall disposed laterally adjacent said vehicle and extending longitudinally along a desired direction of vehicle travel, said first magnetic wall comprising a second series of magnets, each of the magnets in said second series having a particular size and a North-to-South axis pointing in the same direction as the desired direction of vehicle travel, each of said permanent magnets of said particular size in said second series being separated from the next successive permanent magnet in said second series by a thinner magnet, each of said thinner magnets having a pole-to-pole length which is shorter than the lateral width of said magnets of a particular size in said second series, said thinner magnets further having a North-to-South axis pointing perpendicular to the North-to-South axis of said magnets of a particular size in said second series and pointing generally toward a vehicle side of the first magnetic wall; and

a second magnetic wall disposed generally parallel to said first magnetic wall and laterally adjacent to said vehicle but opposite from said first magnetic wall, said second magnetic wall comprising a third series of magnets, each of said magnets in said third series having said particular size and a North-to-South axis pointing in an opposite direction from the desired direction of vehicle travel, each of the permanent magnets in said third series being separated from the next successive permanent magnet of said particular size in said third series by a thinner magnet, each of said thinner magnets in the second magnetic wall having a pole-to-pole length which is shorter than the lateral width of said magnets of a particular size in said third series, said thinner magnets in the second magnetic wall further having a North-to-South axis pointing in the same general direction as the North-to-South axis of the thinner magnets in the first magnetic wall;

wherein said first and second magnetic walls create magnetic fields which exert propelling forces on said armature and thereby cause the vehicle to accelerate in the desired direction of vehicle travel.

(claim and EXTREMELY narrow vehicle with some sort of magnetic propulsion motor, nothing more)

It is annoying how many people get up in arms about patents when they just take for granted what someone who is clearly also not a patent person tells them.  Always always always read the claims of the patent before making any comments about what the patent supposedly covers.

I see that there are a lot of skeptics on here. I am a ticketed Machinist, Welder, and Mobile Crane Operator and I've tinkered around with magnets and magnetic motors for years. (My dad got me hooked). This is a very touchy subject because of the impact this technology could have on an economy. My dad and I have seen TV shows and read books and articles on everything related to free energy but by no means are we experts. We are just very curious about this subject. It seems that any great idea or invention that affects the oil companies current or future profits, gets bought out and hidden, along with the person who invented it. Now, I don't care what anyone on here thinks about my comments, and I don't care how much schooling you've had, just because you're "book smart" does'nt mean you're "real world smart". I'm only 35 so I was'nt alive when we went to the moon or tv was invented but I know there must have been some skeptics back then and I bet they feel stupid now. I don't find a need to tell anyone on here what I have or how it works. You can call my b.s, I don't care, it works for us and that's all I care about. Open up your mind to other possibilties, be creative. You might learn something.
OK - I actually just bought the HOJO plans from the clickbank site - In full knowledge that is is a sales pitch.. and I just read them. mmmm I think it contains some ideas I had not considered. Who knows whether it is true or not... Tom Bearden endorses him and Tom Bearden is pretty smart! My advice - You would pay $10 for a burger, If you want to find out something you might need to spend money... even if much is wasted...
Can you make money from a machine like this?? Sure. If, like my father-in-law, you know someone dumb enough to pay you to build one. Of course it is VAUGELY possible that you could come up with some configuration where "permanent" magnets would turn something to pull them past a coil. BTW, I am almost certain that ANOTHER genius working on this same idea made me a present of about 100 "supermagnets" along the way somehow. At least I found a fellow who sells odds and ends -- end lots etc of machine tool type materials-- and HE had some just cracker jack assemblies with eight really really nice and powerful rare earth and stainless encased magnets on some sort of curved thing a mabobs that look like someone was trying to do this same old age old dream machine. I --- with a great deal of effort --- managed to pry them off the assemblies. I thought they were glued down, but turns out that wasn't necessary magnets that strong don't need to be glued. DAMN, were they on there tight. thing is that the only way this WOULD have worked ----according to the law of conservation of energy and matter --- the magnets would have had to deteriorate as they did the "work" of turning the damned thing. The one my dad in law made wasn't so fancy, but what the heck. When something isn't possible why be fancy, right? For anyone who read this far... don't waste you money unless you are compiling a book on crack pot ideas. Power companies don't build giant dams and dig holes miles into the earth etc etc etc because there is really a secret way to make power for nothing that they are hiding. Really, they don't. just trust me. God said you should.
I'm sure that in ancient times, someone connected an Archimedean screw pump to a water wheel, in the hopes that the pump would lift enough water to keep the wheel turning the pump. I'm sure that it never worked, no matter how much the inventor tinkered with drive ratios, pipe diameters, angles of incline etc. I'm sure that James Watt or one of his contemporaries connected a steam engine to a friction brake, only to find that the brake didn't get any where near as hot as the fire underneath the boiler of the engine. Following this trend, I'm sure that many basement inventors have connected an electric motor to a generator, in the hopes that they will power one another. It doesn't work, regardless of what drive ratio (or flywheels or springy-thingies etc.) one uses on the mechanical side, regardless of what kind of transformers or LC coupling one uses on the electrical side, regardless of one's attempts to make one armature perform both motor and generator duties. People believe it can work for two reasons: i) It would sure be nice. ii) They have never done and understood the math that engineers who design motors and generators use on a daily basis. (Hint: research the definitions of "Back EMF" and "back torque") Do you see the trend here? When science discovers a new force that the general public understands even less than they understand electromagnetism, I confidently predict that there will be a "gold rush" of tinkerers trying to exploit this force to realize perpetual motion. A few quacks will claim to have succeeded. I wont be risking a dime of my own money on any such claims. Gravitational potential energy was not commonly understood in the time of Archimedes; gas pressure, friction, and the conversion of heat to mechanical energy were not commonly understood in the time of James Watt; electromagnetism, torque vs. back torque, EMF vs. back EMF, and Ohm's and Kirchoff's laws are not well understood by most people alive today. As science advances, so does the rate of suckers born per minute. (As an aside,I'd say P.T. Barnum earned at least honorary Phd's in psychology and marketing. As another aside, I'm grateful that the HoJo folks haven't resorted to telemarketing...)
Hey, is this the Howard Johnson that a company of hotels is named after? Some of you are getting free engergy mixed up with "perpetual motion machines." Don't get them mixed up! Depending on which point you start thinking from, energy is either only free if someone gave it (the energy) to you or gave you the parts to build the machine that generates it; or it can be free besides that, after the devices you bought have paid for themselves. If someone didn't pay for your electricity or gas for you, then it wasn't free. If you have a wind turbine or a solar panel, or even if this HoJo thing were to be able to work, that isn't free energy unless someone gave you the parts for the devices! Okay, but if you only consider after you've gotten the turbine or solar panels, *then* yeah, your energy IS free even if someone didn't give the devices to you! Yes, then after that, it's like Khwartz says, those devices ARE free-energy devices! You didn't have to pay for the sunlight, did you? NOPE! You didn't have to pay for the wind did you? NOPE! So yeah, FE devices DO exist and WORK! But that's why I say not to get FE mixed up with PM! "Perpetual motion machines" do not work! Why do we want them to even though we can have free energy from the sun and/or the wind? Obviously because the wind doesn't always blow and the sun doesn't always shine. But what about storing energy in batteries that those 2 kinds of devices can charge up? (Yes, you'd have to use an inverter with at least the solar panels anyway, but maybe when the turbines are running, you could have your AC directly from them.) But yes, PMM sales such as this one for the Howard Johnson Motor are always and will always be scams! So why does anyone even worry about PMMs, when if they can just save up for solar panels and wind turbines (and rechargeable batteries or flywheel energy storage for the dark and still times), then after the cost of those has been overcome, they WOULD get free energy? See, free energy (after the equipment is paid for, or if it's donated) DOES exist and DOES work! It's only self-generated perpetual motion that does not! Now can we all be happy?
It's pretty simple when the video states they are leaving the website up for another 30 minutes you have a lie! One leads to another and the video is just hype. My 2 cents.
Thanks for the site. Because of 'too good to be true', I figured the HoJo Motor (Lodge ;-) ) was a scam. These people prey upon the weak. But your site is heartening because it shows just how many folks are interested in increasing the efficiency of energy production. I urge all of you to visit the Thorium site I have listed ( http://energyfromthorium.com/ ). Here is technology that we can believe in. Researched by the US during the Manhattan Project, this could be the energy silver bullet. I find it interesting that the Chinese and the Russian's seem the most focused on developing Thorium even though US research made possible this form of efficient energy production. If you have time, watch this YouTube video - ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=P9M__yYbsZ4 ). I find it ironic that our current Sec. of Energy, a Nobel prize winning physicist is unwilling to commit useful resources for the US to develop the infrastructure to support Thorium LFTR reactors. 200 times more efficient than Uranium, thousands of time more efficient than fossil fuels. Since Hojo pays by the click, we owe it them to 'support' them with lots of clicks. Yeaj baby!
Matthew, The energy the earth "generates" is not free! There is a quadrillion or so tons of hydrogen on fire about 81/2 minutes at the speed of light from earth that keep things going! It's called the sun!
I knew it was a scam the minute I tried to navigate away from the page and it had the usual scam giveaway sign. PUSH THE CANCEL TAB TO STAY ON PAGE AND PUSH THE CONTINUE TAB TO MOVE ON. This pop up is always a dead giveaway to a scam. Think about it... anything this good and the vendor would not need to hold a potential customer hostage.
"Zero Point Field"? Really? Has someone been watching Stargate SG-1 and confusing it with reality? Just because a theory is "80 years old" doesn't invalidate it. Newton's 3rd law, "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction" has been around for a while, but if I slap an idiot in the head, his head will still snap back in reaction.
